I don't like weight handicaps. I prefer win a race for my own pace and good luck and not because the best driver has too much penalty in that round.
Race for P6 is fun, don't make a lottery to have a lot of winners.

1. Who will decide if somebody is fast or slow? (of course we can see the past results, but sometimes it's tricky too)
2. What to do with the new drivers who are fast and we can't know it?

I invented dozens of equality systems in this league. Of course every proposed idea is worth of consideration.

Well, I was not thinking in mandatory terms. I know it would be controversial to have someone deciding and categorizing drivers and cars.
I think that most drivers here know each other well, because you guys race together for years. I'm new here, but it takes 2 or 3 races to see who's who in terms of speed. So, when I suggested that fast drivers choose the slowest cars and vice-versa, the idea was to leave the decision to each one. As it is in the general interest to have lively races, with many overtakes and close racing oportunities, I believe it would be possible. If most of the fastest drivers choose slower cars, and one of them chooses a fast one, well, he would do that choice knowing that his direct oponents and race buddys would be slower, therefore he wouldn't have oponents with the same pace and would be doomed to race alone in the front. And even if a fast driver made that choice, and win all races beeing alone in the front, what would be his merit/sense of personal achievement knowing that those victorys belong to the car and not to his driving? Besides, there are no money prizes, so...
I still believe that if we divide the cars in groups at the beginning of a season, and recommend that the fastest drivers take the slower cars, things might bemore interesting for everyone.

The weight system might work also, but I respect that some drivers don't like it or are against it. But it can level the race pace by slowing the lap times of the fastest drivers, allowing closer racers in more situations.

With new drivers... it's easy. We just ask what lap times they are doing, and also look in the server logs. Then, according to their lap times, we can recommend that they choose a car from a specific group, that other drivers with close to him lap times are using. This way, this new driver will "feel at home" in his first race!

I agree with Aitor.
Luckily we have more drivers on the same skill level: I fight always for the backup positions but it's not a boring life. With Laszlo, Stefano and Luis in the last races we had hard fights and the quiet moments were really short.
An alternative could be, it's just an idea and force the Admin to further work, to run two classes of cars.

For example, in the forthcoming DRM champ we can use 2 divisions: 1° division (Porsche 935, Capri, Toyota) open to the fastest drivers, and 2° division (Lancia, Bmw 320) open for the "not too fast" ones (here I am!! :D).
As I sayed it's just a way to have separate champs where also the slowest drivers can compete for the victory in a "minor champ".
I realize however that's an increase of work for the admin that, I suppose, has a life outside simracing. :P

As I sayed at the start, for me, we can go on with the actual rules.

Keep calm and wait the chequered flag...

Right, it works only online. There are two solutions to make each driver do their practicing with their ballast.

1- Give the admin password to each of us for practising throughout the week so that anyone can become admin and apply weight to himself. And then come race day, re-change it to your own and keep it for yourself so only you can become admin.

2- If you are not willing to share admin password anyhow, then individuals who want to test with weight can create their simple server simply by clicking Connect --> Create menu. It's the same as offline testing.

Ad.1 - no problem, but it should be used careful - I don't want to be banned
Ad.2 - better option

Just want to clear something...

My intention when I proposed options to assign faster cars to slower drivers and vice-versa was never to find ways to win races, get more points or better scores anyhow.

I couldn't care less about that.

My only concern was/is to have more fun during league races, independently from the results or points. I'm old and experienced enough to know that a driver value isn't dependant on the finishing positions - at least for me - but on the way he behaves on track, the way he drives in close racing and fighting with other cars.

It's just that since I started to race here I never had a close race with other cars. Perhaps it's just bad luck, or maybe I'm too far from the fastest drivers and too distant from the slower ones, but for me only one thing matters to have fun during races, and that is close racing.

Wait for DRM, you will be close. I think I hadn't close racing due to bad luck. I had dozens of actions with JM Feri and it was priceless.

I think the order of choice according to reverse HGT Ranking positions and weight penalty can be a perfect solution for incoming 2rd HGT Season. Why? Because car differencies are in range of 3 s. Fastest drivers cannot reach the fastest cars but the difference of 1-2 s. isn't a problem for them. With the weight penalty it can be equalised.

We must make our community little bit bigger. With 20+ drivers on grid the close racing is sure, with 10+ as we have - just possible.
