I hope today later in the day we will know what's going on with the server. The cause of the failure was a lightning strike in the district where the server is located. It caused huge damage.

Nope...

I hope they have it covered by insurance; it would perhaps take some time but it will be running again in... # weeks?...

If it isn't, I guess someone will have to examine options from other providers. I don't know how good were the conditions we had with this one, but there are plenty other out there. Some years ago, when I was at eSport-Racing.de, we used these:

Some explanations, because as I wrote it will be clear soon what's going on with the server but it seems this Sunday's race must be called off too:

1. We hire one slot of dedicated server from IRG-World. They gave it us for free.
2. There are pros and cons of this situation - it's for free but we depend on them.
3. As we depend on them it won't be able to set new or another rF2 server, because it can cause server overload.
4. The best thing is to have own server but it is usually expensive. I used to have it some years ago. It was for 300 PLN (Polish currency) pro month. It's about 70-80 EUR.
5. I checked out current dedicated server prices in my country. The cheapest thing I found is for 150-160 PLN - around 40 EUR pro month.
6. I'm rich enough to pay it but meanwhile I have some other costs so I won't pay 40 EUR alone.
7. Even if we will find 20 brave drivers who want to pay 2 EUR pro month to cover 40 EUR, the old and well-known magic thing appears in our good community: MONEY.
8. We are secured with rF1. Calling off the event won't last forever, but it can be hard to have rF2 servers.
9. Please, drink a beer or something similar, sit softly on your racing chairs, because...
10. ... we will be back soon!

Small edit:

Just because I love you guys (don't get me wrong) I'm seriously considering to pay this 40 EUR. I put my heart into this project and it seems that "racing is in my blood" so it would be nice to have unrestricted possibilities with servers. I must think about it.

I maybe able to set up a server. I have enough parts to get a PC working. Simon Swarbrick ran a server successfully last year without any issues. I have fast unlimited internet access so that shouldn't be a problem. I have no idea how to set up a server but I'm sure I can work it out.

We could at least try it out. It would be a completely dedicated server running only the software required for our races. If successful we would also be able to run other Sims such as rf2 & AMS.

Your thoughts :)

Another idea is to get Simon Swarbrick involved. He maybe able to help us out for a short while until IRG get their server back up or we build and run our own.

I think it's not necessary. I have info that Aitor can't race this Sunday so we can have short break until all things will be clear.

Marek if you decide to rent a server, I'll gladly contribute if it's ok. I agree that the no cost solution we have been using is great. For the spirit of doing things for the fun of it, for not having the word money involved in our activities, for the amateur spirit that trough the involvement of our members makes things work so well.

Anyway, nothing lasts forever, I've seen the need to change things in the past, but I'm sure we'll find a solution that fit's our needs. Btw, if necessary, I can have a temporary dedicated server online in no time. I work in computers/networks and I have several pc's and laptops capable of running the rFactor 1 Server software well above the necessary hardware requirements. My Internet is 100/100 Mb/s with optic fibre, wich I believe it's more than enough to have up to 20 drivers simultaneously on track lag free.
