CAUTION!

Due to possible track cutting all critical areas will be investigated after the race. The main critical areas are:
- last chicane
- right-left turn on the hill in the middle of the track

Cutting the chicane will add 5 s. to the laptime.
Cutting right-left turn will add 2 s. to the laptime.
Up to 3 cuttings allowed. 4th or more cause adding the penalty seconds.
Intentional and permanent shortcuts of the track area will be investigated too and can cause DQ in the race results.

Easiest race report from this season.

One word could be enough: damn!...

I noticed during last weeks practice and 5 laps test races that these engines strong point wasn't reliability, so I decided to go with a one click longer gearbox than the ideal one. I think most of us were using not the shortest option but the next option, one click longer (about 165km/h @ +- 8000rpm on the end of the longest straight). After blowing the engine 2 or 3 times during 5 laps test races without even stretching revs to red line, I decided to use a perhaps slower but safer gearbox for the race and try to bring the engine to finish line with some health left.
Qualify: did a 58,7 or 58,6, which was excelent since I shaved almost 0,5 secs to my PB so far (1.59.162). All the conditions were favorable to enjoy some close racing, as I was 8th with faster drivers like Aitor and Lazlo behind me (no doubt because of lack of practice). Probably they would catch me later on the race, but at least some action seemed guaranteed.
Race: ended where I started: the start-finish line with a blown engine. Don't know what happened, I couldn't hear my engine very well, but at gren light the engine was already dead, can't understand why as I did nothihg like over-revving that would justify it's demise. Anyway, I stood there looking everyone disappearing in front of me.

Anyway, 8th in the grid is encouraging, so I'm looking forward to the next one as I feel I'm slowly learning how to go faster and thus getting closer to my objective: to reach a level that allowms me to fight positions not with the top drivers but at least the group that normally occupies from 4th to 8th or 10th position.

Qualy: The first few laps were slow as I got stuck behind a slower car. When I managed to get past I put in a lap close to my PB a 1:56.0. The 3rd pole of the season. :)

Race: I had practiced a lot for this race but forgot to practice for the start. During warmup I noticed that getting off the line without toasting the engine was going to be difficult. Because of this I tried to start with low revs but the car bogged down. I think I released the clutch too quickly as well, to rub salt in the wound. Managed to get started but had now fallen back to 6th. Now I had to fight. The 5ht place guy span out so one down. Took me a few attempts to get past the 4th place driver (don't know who). At one point we tried to go through the chicane at the end of the lap side by side which was doomed to failure. I had to straight line and go over the grass. This meant I overtook the guy but I immediately gave the place back. Finally got past but Marek was now a few seconds up the road. Caught him within a few laps and we had a good battle until I got past into 3rd. Can't remember the fight for second. I think the guy in front went off at the end of the long straight but not sure. I was now 5.5 seconds behind Nikola. I was a second a lap faster than Nikola so all I had to do was put in 5 clean laps. Put in 4 then I span just after the blind exit chicane. So I've spun in the all 3 races here and in the last 8 races I've done. Thought that my chance was over. Nikola was now 6.7 seconds ahead with 9 laps to go. So I could do it. I began putting in my fastest laps of the race and I quickly reeled in Nikola. I was just over a second behind him when he made a mistake out of T2. I thought I'd get past but his car span back into the middle of the track and I slammed into the back of him. This gave him a push start and the battle for the lead commenced with 2 laps to go. I tried several times to get past. The last lap. Nikola still ahead. Running out of chances. At the end of the long straight I out braked him it into the first left hand corner and thought I'd got the job done but my celebrations were short lived when I noticed his bonnet alongside me. He managed to get back into the lead in the next left hander. At the hairpin Nikola took a tight line and I decided a wide entry may work. I got alongside him. If I could keep myself alongside I'd be in the right place for the next 2 corners. I think both cars are going to need a paint job as we fought over the same bit of tarmac. But I had the advantage now and I completed the pass started 3 turns ago. One more place to protect the braking into the chicane but Nikola had fallen back and I took it real easy into the chicane. Thought for a nasty moment my exit was going to be too slow allowing Nikola to take me on the line but I was OK. My arms were shaking by the end. This was one of my best wins in this series. It's one thing to win from the front but much better when you've really had to work for it. Thanks to Nikola and the other guys for a great race.

Well done to the podiums :)
Well done to all who finished :) and commiserations to those who didn't :(

On to Road Atlanta. I really hate this circuit. I've never gone well here.

@Antonio : Do you use a plugin like XD or GID. Engine health is random. My XD plugin tells me the engine health and sometimes you can start the race with very low engine health. When I go to the grid it's the first thing I check. In this race XD said 73%. The trick here is to exit back to the pits then re-join. Next I got 85%. I exited then I got 91%. A final try got me 93%. If I'd gone with the 73% I would have had to ease off in the last few laps and I wouldn't have won this race as I ended with 9%. Of course the problem here is it can go the other way I could have ended up with less than 73%. It's a gamble. You also have to watch the countdown as you could get stranded and have to start from the pitlane.

I use GID with 2 boxes: main LCD with km/h, revs, gear, fuel, etc, and other one with an F1 design from top with tire and brake temps, engine health, oil and water temps.
Now that you mention it, I think that with these cars I had 100% health whebnever I leave pit, but in other tracks/cars I think sometimes it would go random and work like you said - esc and leave pit again will get you a different value, and within some tries you manage to leave with a safe value.
I did watch the countdown, but I guess my engine was already dead when I released the clutch...

I used xd before, but it doesn't work from windows 10 with steam rfactor 1 installs. Which is too bad, as I prefered it over GID - more accurate and less fps drop. Lucky me I have a card that allows me to max all graphic options and never go under 90fps. But if I turn GID off, in some tracks I easily go way over 200 fps.

nah, it was bad luck. I'm using since always auto-clutch with no miss-shifts option in upgrades and never had problems before. I use auto-lift and auto-blip with the clutch mapped to the 3rd pedal on my CSP v1, but I only use the clutch for starts, as after I have a button on my wheel mapped to turn auto-clutch off and change gears faster on the track...

Hello,

First of all, I would like to apologise to the organiser, and other racers in the championship, because of my last racing at Motopark. I made too many bad passes through the last chicane, so I earned largest amount of penalties, of all. I am sorry for that, and I think that my penalties are correct decision.

There is just one think I would like to make clear at this point. I want to make everyone sure, that my driving at last race, is not case of "horrible style", it is all about "weak skill" (I am pretty out of experience in virtual racing). When I realised, that I wont be competitive enough, I decided to go for penalties, but give an strong racing, to get as much as posible learning about maintaining tempo in the race. Also, I was aware that my chicane-issue, dont get me any profit, over the racer in front of me. How ever, I do understand, that this kind of racing is not legal, so that is why I think, my penalties are ok.

My job now is to prove in next races, that this was just a lonely situation, and not a habit.

Also I would like to congratulate to all racers, who finished Motopark thrill, specially podium finishers. Well done, guys!

Best wishes, and fast miles from me,
Bratislav Brankovic
